In August 2020 I started reading online to my grandchildren, who live hundreds of miles away. A few years and over a thousand books later we are still reading together on FaceTime. At the time we started my grandson Kalepo was 8. Henry and Jane were 6 and 4 years old.
I soon discovered there are other grandmas and grandpas that want to read aloud to their grandchildren online and in person and don’t know where to start or what books to read.
How I Can Help You Get Started
I started this website to help other grandparents find quality books that work well for reading aloud online or in person. I’ll do the hard work for you so you don’t have to spend hours and hours searching the library or bookstores to find great read-aloud books.
On readaloudgrandma.com you will learn what you need to do to get started on a wonderful journey of reading aloud to your grandchildren online or in person! I’ll share tips that I have learned along the way that have helped make reading aloud to my grandchildren such a memorable experience for all of us.
My Background
I graduated from Brigham Young University with a degree in Early Childhood Education and an Elementary Education teaching certificate. I taught second grade for a few years and loved reading aloud to my classes. I was inspired by my fourth grade teacher who read to our class every day before lunch. I continued that practice. During my years of teaching I started building my own library and added to it over the years. I already had a good collection of books when I started reading aloud to my own children. I have never outgrown my love of reading children’s books!
My husband and I live in Utah where we enjoy spending time with our four children and their families whenever we can!
